Jeremiah Askew

Hello Everyone.  I am still the same old Jeremiah…just going by Mr. Askew these days.  Wow…how fast life passes by when you’re having fun and enjoying LIFE!  It seems like just the other day we were all leaning on each others shoulder singing “One More Bridge to Cross” and not knowing what to do with ourselves after partying, then waking up the next day after graduation.  Well for me life has been well and moving at a fast past.  I have been married for 5 years now (wife’s name is Kenia), and have two beautiful young kids (Kameron Jeremiah Askew (3) and Kamarri Jasmine Askew (2).  I attended Alabama State University and graduated with honors in 2002 with a Bachelor’s in Accounting.  I am currently living in Montgomery working at International Paper in Prattville, AL as a Business Analyst.  I have had previous jobs as a Corporate Accountant, Cost Accountant, Auditor and Regional Operations Accountant.  I look forward to seeing all of you again and I wish everyone safe travel.

Alison (Belfast) Byrd

I earned a BS in Psychology from UAB 2001.  I lived in B'ham another year, thinking I would stay a while when my long-time friendship with Clemon Byrd (c/o '95) began to grow into something more.  After failed relationships and hardships in both of our lives, we were glad to have a chance to get to know each other again as adults who could appreciate each other in ways that teenagers never could.  We began dating in 2001 and knew that unless God had other plans we would get married some day.  I moved back to Auburn in 2002 to be closer to Clemon, closer to my family, and to attend AUM for a M.Ed. in Agency Counseling.  Just when I thought that my life couldn't get sweeter, Clemon proposed on Nov. 25, 2005 and we got married on March 4, 2006.  It was a beautiful, fairytale wedding...although it was moved up from Summer '06 to March because Clemon got orders (two weeks after proposing) to go to Iraq June '06.  We were blessed to find out two weeks after the wedding that there were enough lieutenants going and he could stay at home.  I earned the M.Ed. May '06 and we bought a house in Auburn that July.  I am currently a therapist/counselor with Mental Health in Opelika.  No children yet, but we hope to be expecting soon!  Clemon is working toward Captain with the Army National Guard and works as a Corporal police officer with APD.  Clemon was just promoted to Sergeant with the Auburn PD. He earned a BS in Criminal Justice from Faulkner and is starting an MBA at Columbus State.  Can't wait to see everyone at the reunion!

Tamika Fields

Personal life:  FEB. ‘00’:  Naively under the guise of love, I married the wrong man.  Thank the Lord, redeemer of men; I was legally and morally released from that travesty on Dec 2, 2005.  I’ve been entrusted with a “mini me”, named Storm Xavier; born the day after my birthday NOV. 12, ‘03’!  I didn’t dream of being a Mother, but it came naturally.  I have the obvious learning curves.  It’s like going to a new job everyday!  Parental OJT is daunting yet rewarding beyond measure! Professional life: I was a Computer-Communications Systems TECH in the Air Force for 4 years. I moved from Los Angeles, CA to Niceville, FL in April ‘06’.  I have an A.A. in Liberal Arts, and an A.A.S. in Information Systems Technology.  My day job is as a Personal Computer Analyst at Eglin AFB.  I’m also part time On-Air Talent at Z-96 96.5 FM!  (http://wzns.com/)  I’m changing to my Career of choice (Radio, Television, and Film) in the immediate future!  Blessings to all!  Live well and remember the “Golden Rule”

Kristen Lenz

Conveniently situated between Boston and New York, I've been working as an art director/designer for The Hartford Courant in the capitol city of Connecticut, the richest state in the union. (though this is not fully reflected in my paycheck :) ) After graduating from Auburn University with a bachelor's in journalism, I headed to enemy territory to work for the Tuscaloosa News for 2 years; headed to sunny Sarasota, Fla., for a year to work for the paper there; then went wide left to Orange County, California to work at The Orange County Register. If you're sweet enough, as Southerners are, the cabbies in Laguna Beach will offer to drive you and your gaggle of girlfriends to Vegas at 3 am for a mere ... $500. Don't take that deal. Jet Blue is much cheaper, and they serve snacks. I'm currently helping chair a workshop for the Society of Newspaper Designers to be held in Boston in October. While it's a lot of work it's also a lot of fun, and there will be a lot of drinking. So hard work pays off. Since I'm usually picking up after reporters, editors and photographers instead of children, here's what most of my efforts go into: My Portfolio See everyone soon

Megan Nix

After graduation, I enrolled at AU and eventually settled on the majors Computer Engineering and Philosophy. Unfortunately, I suffer from multiple chronic illnesses, including fibromyalgia and hypoglycemia, and they fully came to a head in 1999. Shortly after that I was forced to withdraw (from everything) and remained mostly housebound for about 5 years. I was fortunate to receive the opportunity to come to California and be treated by a talented fibromyalgia specialist in 2001, and after a difficult recovery I was well enough to return to school (at the University of California, Riverside) in 2004. I finally received my Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering just this month! I am now living in Pasadena and looking for a job, hopefully at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), where I have interned in the past.
Health/resources/etc. permitting, I would like to eventually go back for a graduate degree and do research in nanotechnology. Yep...I'm still a geek. I never married, but I am dating Robert Nissen, who is a professor of biology at California State University, Los Angeles. We met on the Caltech Ballroom Dance Team, where we are competitive dance partners. The second picture is of us at a competition this past March. Unfortunately, I will not be able to make it to the reunion, but I have enjoyed reading about everyone here. Please encourage those you see at the reunion to also post updates so that I can read about them as well! Good luck to you all, and remember to take care of your health.

Nicolette Grenell

Greetings from sunny South Florida!  I can’t believe it’s been 10 years.  After graduating from Auburn High, I attended Jackson State University and received a B.A. in Urban Studies in 2001.  In 2003, I received a Masters in Public Administration from Northern Illinois University.  After getting my Masters, I was accepted into the nationally known Management Trainee program with Miami-Dade County in Miami, Florida.  The internship allows participants to rotate through strategically identified departments and assigned project-based work and special tasks for the purpose of gaining a comprehensive understanding of how governmental bodies function.  After completing the Trainee program, I worked as a Budget Analyst II for two and a half years with the Office of Strategic Business Management where I was responsible for analyzing multiple large and complex departmental operating and capital budgets from initial submission to year-end closeouts.  Currently, I am a Special Projects Administrator and Asst. Hurricane Coordinator for the Department of Solid Waste Management.  I have truly enjoyed working, living and playing in Miami for the last 4 years.  The weather is great, people are beautiful, and I can go to the beach year-round.  The only downside is hurricanes.  In April, I became engaged to a wonderful man I’ve dated since January 2006.  He’s a Development Manager with New York Life in Orlando.  Because he’s already established a residence, I will be moving to Orlando in July 2007.  I’m extremely excited about the move and ready to start my life with him.   Since my family moved away from Auburn in 2005, I don’t get to visit very often; however, my fiancé and I have decided that we will hold the wedding in Auburn next May.  He’s a 1998 University of Florida graduate so this was a big compromise.  Although I will not be able to attend the reunion, I hope you all have a blast.  I have enjoyed reading the updates and glad to see everyone doing so well.  See you in another 10 years!  Take care.

Adam Merrick
